Fans of 'The L Word' will be treated to a spin-off series based on a yet un-named character of the show, Showtime CEO Robert Greenblatt announced at today's TCA panel. He added that a title is still up in the air. Additionally, the network has picked up two more seasons of 'Weeds,' saying there will be "much more elicit drugs to come on the show."
New to the lineup will be 'Nurse Jackie' and 'United States of Tara'. 'Jackie' will star Edie Falco as a complicated, drug-addled and rather racy nurse. The process of developing the show was deliberate, particularly after the actress' amazing run on her previous hit show. "[Falco] very much wanted to do a show after The Sopranos," said Greenblatt, adding that "every network put their hat in the ring." A preview of the new series shown to reporters featured scenes of Falco as the nurse snorting drugs and undertaking on-the-job dalliances with the doctors.
'United States of Tara,' directed by Steven Spielberg and written by 'Juno' wunderkind Diablo Cody, will follow Toni Collette as a woman with multiple-personality disorder; one of these faces will be that of a tough talking street urchin and the other a sex-obsessed woman. Her husband is played by John Corbett.
What's next for 'Dexter'? Some of the changes will revolve around Debra Morgan (Jennifer Carpenter). "She will have to learn theres a gray area instead of the black and white that she believes in with law enforcement," said show creator Clyde Phillips. "She still psychologically looking for the approval of the father. She never really had it. Also I can tell you she will finally enter into a healthy loving relationship. I can’t tell you with whom but hopefully it will be a surprise."
