News: Wesley Snipes Cuts Government Check for $15 Million

After Wesley Snipes was sentenced to 3 years for failing to file tax returns and was fined, the actor took the consequences in stride--and cut the government 3 checks for $5 million each, in court, before reading an apology: "I am an idealistic, naive, passionate, truth-seeking, spiritually motivated artist, unschooled in the science of law and finance," then went on to blame his troubles on celebrity and unscrupulous advisors. The judge, who didn't seem to be impressed with Mr. Snipes, had the following to say in return: "One of the main purposes which drives selective prosecution in tax cases is deterrence. In some instances, that means those of celebrity stand greater risk of prosecution. But there's nothing unusual about it, nor is there anything unlawful about it. It's the way the system works." Clearly, the judge was not moved by Wesley's impressive classically oriented line of work! The film To Wong Foo, Thanks for Everything, Julie Newmar alone should have been enough to get him out of jail! [Yahoo!]
