A Fancast Exclusive

The Cast of The Wizards of Waverly Place

In a special pre-broadcast premiere of the The Wizards of Waverly Place, Fancast introduces you to the Russo kids, Alex and her two younger brothers Justin and Max. CLICK HERE to watch the entire opening episode of this utterly charming new Disney Channel comedy series right here on Fancast, the Internet’s ultimate one-stop entertainment escape for finding what you want to watch, where to watch it and when it’s available.

At first glance, Russos are ordinary kids growing up in New York City. But wait, on closer inspection, they are different. Very different. The three siblings are actually young wizards in training, children learning how to use their magical powers. Fun, right? But there’s a catch. Only the best one of them gets to keep their special gifts and remain a wizard, while the other two will lose their powers of gee-wizardry. When their dad isn’t running the family’s sandwich shop with his mortal wife, he’s teaching wizard class.

The young wizards on this new offering from the Disney Channel are played by Selena Gomez (Alex), Jake Austin, and David Henrie. Veterans David DeLuise and Maria Canals star as the parents. Exec. producer, writer and director Todd Greenwald served as consulting producer on Disney’s megahit Hannah Montana, so you can count on a few TV tricks that’ll please young viewers.

The Wizards of Waverly Place airs October 12 on the Disney Channel, but you can see it as often as you want until then on Fancast, your #1 destination for everything about TV, movies and celebrities.

Weekend Roundup: Oct. 19 - 21

Stars of all wattage – Tom Hanks to Three's Company's Joyce DeWitt to Sting – were brushed back Sunday, when a 2,400-acre fire burned through Malibu. The celeb-packed locale avoided wildfires in recent years. Thankfully, no one was hurt. Malibu’s beachside LG House, which hosted parties this summer for NBC and The Hillsseason 3 premiere, was set ablaze, but Pepperdine U., where John Cusack brunches, was spared.

Bill Maher’s Emmy-nommed HBO show Real Time was YouTube’d like crazy this weekend, as hecklers disrupted the show – and had to be forcibly removed. With Maher’s panel that included columnist Joel Stein, MSNBC’s Chris Matthews, and Rep. Sheila Jackson (D-TX), an audience member yelled indistinguishable words and wouldn’t stop talking. “Audience comes from the Latin – to listen,” Maher joked, before calling security to oust the man. Another audience member was also removed. Watch it here!

How embarrassing: Kid Rock was arrested early Sunday at a Waffle House outside Atlanta after a late-night fight. Police were summoned, a window was broken, and Rock was unhurt. He is on tour supporting his latest album, Rock & Roll Jesus – and is seen smiling in his mug shot. Rock has had a busy two months, brawling with Tommy Lee at the MTV VMA’s, bashing ex-wife Pamela Anderson, and having a #1 record.

Teen girls unite: The High School Musical stage tour could be coming to a town near you, Backstage magazine says. After an ice tour, TV movies and live music show, a High School Musical stage tour for seems plausible. And why not: who can’t get enough Zac Efron and Vanessa Hudgens?

Notorious party animal/Alone in the Dark star Tara Reid was treated in early October for elevated liver enzymes at a L.A.-area hospital, The National Enquirer reports. The sickness is frequently linked to alcohol abuse. Reid appeared at an Oct. 18 premiere in L.A. and looked healthy.

Marie Osmond: Legend of the Fall

Marie Osmond shocked tonight – but didn’t disappoint, in a theatrical kind of way – when she collapsed after samba-ing at Monday’s taping of Dancing with the Stars. The Donny and Marie star, 48, falls when she “gets winded,” she said … which made us wonder if we’ll do that someday, too. "I stop breathing." Osmond fell into partner Jonathan Roberts’s arms at the judges’ table, and hit the floor, as producers went to commercial. As People.com reports, "The ballroom went silent."

How about those judges? No sympathy: Osmond scored 21 of 30 points, despite a full effort.

Osmond’s misstep won’t affect the DWTS outcome: Melanie Brown has been picked by Vegas oddsmakers as a frontrunner since Week One. The Spice Girl -- warming up for a reunion tour starting Dec. 5 in Vancouver – dazzled again Monday.

Soap Star's Rampage

One Life to Live doc Nathaniel Marston went randomly crazy on three people and several NYPD officers at 4:50 a.m. Sunday morning, before being arrested for several felonies, according to police reports. Cops speculate that Marston, an admitted anger-management veteran and former amateur boxer, was on narcotics, presumably cocaine, and his face was bruised in pictures. At a local hospital where Marston, 32, was admitted, he was declared “disturbed," according to TMZ.

The NY Daily News has pursued this story zealously, even knocking on Marston’s NYC apartment door Sunday for comment. The rest says it all:

"I don't want to talk to you, and please don't ever come to my home," Marston told the Daily News Sunday after his release from Bellevue Hospital.

He answered the door of his midtown apartment bare-chested, sporting a fresh bruise over his left eye.

Trailer Park Chic

A month after winning her first Emmy for My Name is Earl, Jaime Pressly has unveiled the newest collection of her fashion line, J’aime. The Spring/Summer 2008 collection is Pressly’s fifth year in a row she has premiered at L.A. Fashion Week, held every March and October at Smashbox Studios. Her Earl castmates, including Jason Lee, Giovanni Ribisi and Ethan Suplee, joined her this time, front row, for a peek.

Pressly also flew to Dallas Saturday promoting J’aime. She said on her MySpace video blog, “For this particular show, it was a tailored look that was classy – classic – that you can wear now and 10 years from now.”

A far cry from Pressly’s Earl character Joy, who runs a home nail salon and watches “a lot” of Jerry Springer .

Tom's Lions for Lambs European Tour

Katie Holmes was at Tom Cruise's side in Berlin today for the Lions for Lambs premiere -- but for Cruise, it was his third premiere in three days. "I haven't slept, so I'm hammering on through," Cruise, sporting his Nazi-era Valkyrie haircut, told Entertainment Tonight in Berlin. "Did you see Kate? ... It's great to have her here. Very special."

Before Berlin, Tuesday's premiere at the Rome Film Festival with costar Robert Redford was a strictly business affair, without Holmes. Cruise rolled solo to Monday's world premiere in London, where security was elevated. Bags were searched, in fact, to avoid another rogue water-sprayer, the Daily News reports. Cruise told ET in Rome of their baby Suri, "She's just a real light and very happy, a very joyous child."

Critics have not devoured Lions for Lambs, which hits U.S. theaters Nov. 8. Variety declares it "a star-heavy discourse that uses a lot of words to say nothing new."

Bai Ling: The Most Smartest New Author

Actress Bai Ling -- who recently appeared on the D-list reality show Jury Duty -- has a book coming with Harper Collins titled Nipples . Let's hope the book is more titillating than her description about it to a USA Today reporter at the Frederick's of Hollywood fashion show when she explained, "People make fun of my nipples. But it's the first thing we all kiss when we come to Earth." Who's coming to Earth and kissing them? From what planet? Does that even make sense? Where's her editor? Maybe Ling should try out for America's Most Smartest Model.

The Owen Wilson-Wes Anderson Interview: Limited Conversation

It was touted as a challenge to Barbara Walters and Diane Sawyer. It was said to be a threat to traditional media's lock on celebrity mia culpas. It was the first time actorOwen Wilson gave an interviewfirst interview since his August suicide attempt. Adding to the suspense, Wilson’s longtime friend (and Darjeeling Limited director) Wes Anderson was set to do the questioning. But those expecting Wilson to supply details behind his cry for help were disappointed. The much-anticipated clip (watch it here) was posted online at midnight Saturday and the actor didn't skirt the issue as much as the issue was altogether avoided.

The two spoke about about their latest collaboration Darjeeling Limited , working in India, and friendship. The closest Wilson came to any emotional moment was when he said this latest movie might be his favorite of Anerson's films. Asked why, he replied, "I like the themes it's exploring. My character says I want us to become brothers like we used to be. I really liked that line. It meant something to me."

Wilson asked Anderson where he's going next, since he's shot movies in Texas, New York, Rome and India. "I was kind of thinking I should do something in space," Anderson replied. "Why not?" Wilson said. Asked how he ranks his movies, Anderson said, "I think the new one is a sleeper."

During the interview, Wilson, who wore a blue shirt, looked subdued and still fragile. Or maybe he was just low-key as part of his coming out. As much as the celebrity press wants to know the the story behind his ordeal, he might be best to keep it to himself for a while -- until he feels completely healed. Or perhaps he should simply let it become part of the mystery of Owen Wilson. After all, the more we know about movie stars in real life, the less mystique they have.

Wilson's next project is the comedy, Drillbit Taylor.

Jake & Reese Take Rome

Rendition costars Jake Gyllenhaal and Reese Witherspoon have taken their dating public. Gyllenhaal and Witherspoon, who had denied talk of an off-screen romance, were photographed last weekend in Rome together, holding hands, cuddling, and taking in the sights. While promoting their thriller Rendition recently, the pair avoided questions about their relationship and frequently posed for pictures separately. They also didn’t share scenes in the movie.

Witherspoon and Gyllenhaal reportedly became close first during the 2006 Oscar season, when Gyllenhaal's Brokeback Mountain and Witherspoon's Walk the Line were wowing critics. Witherspoon split with actor husband of six years, Ryan Phillippe, last year. Gyllenhaal has also dated actress Kirsten Dunst.

Several online gossip sites have taken to call the new couple “Gyllenspoon.”
